Trip to Thailand via Kolkata

Posted on April 15, 2018 by Abhishek Prahladka

I was partially successful in doing this trick as I kept my phone off for two hours and during that I went to see Victoria Memorial Museum, a palace built to commensurate visit of Queen Victoria to India during the time when Kolkata was capital of India. And no doubt this palace is made up of lush white marbles and one can easily make out the luxurious life of British kingdom which they enjoyed on Indian money.

This palace is one of the biggest and most luxurious I had ever seen in my life as it is beyond imagination to think the money and time spent to build it and that too at that time when technology was not advanced and work was to be carried out by hands.

The statue of Queen Victoria at the entrance is a fantastic piece of architecture and it adores mesmerizing beauty of the Queen. The memorial has remains of India’s war of independence and portraits of leaders of war. Undoubtedly it took more than one and half hour of continuous walking and reading to finish.

The memorial allows visitors to visit multiple storeys which have been developed in the museums, they are reservoir of facts and figures related to India’s fight for freedom.

Handwritten letters of Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Jawahar Lal Nehru, details of Azad Hind Army, resolutions passed in sessions of Congress, etc. I believe that this place is rich in terms of History records alike Museum of Allahabad, where the pistol of Chandra Shekher Azad has been kept, which he used to shot himself during his last fight with Britishers. One should definitely bring future generations to this place so that they should be aware of their glorious & courageous past.
