The Battle of Laungewala….Untold history Part -2

The story is not over yet….

The story of Laungewala Battle does not get over at the Laungewala but it was stretched to BOP 638 which stands for Border Pillar no. 638.

Lets dive into the untold, unheard part of this battle –

Second Part – The Battle of BOP 638

Pakistan army was returning back after conceding defeat from the warriors of Indian Army which was led by Major Chandpuri.

At the same time, an order was received to 13 Kumaon Regiment to follow the enemies and destroy regiment of Pakistani army stationed near Border Pillar no. 638.

On 8th December 1971, Commanding Officer Lieutenant Coronel R. V. Jatar of 13 Kumaon Regiment, assembled at point 422 in the morning and equipped with full arms and ammunition, marched towards border pillar number 638.

Commander of Delta company Major D S Shekhawat, got the order to attack at Phase-1. In the bright sunny afternoon, at around 2:00 PM, Ahir soldiers of Delta company crossed the land mines spread by Pakistani soldiers inspite of heavy cross firings, attacked lower ridge and took it under control.

Subsequently, at around 5:45 PM, Major Chiddi Singh, commander of bravo company, attacked forward ridge of enemy and forced the enemy to move back. While attacking the soldiers were continuously shouting their war cry” Dada Kishan ki Jai”.

On 9th December morning, entire area of border number 638 was under control of Indian soldiers and Pakistani soldiers were pushed back.

In this battle, 13 Kumaon Regiment killed 52 enemy soldiers and with due respect they buried the bodies of the dead Pakistani soldiers near border pillar number 638. All the dead soldiers were from 1 Punjab Regiment of Pakistani army and those buried included Commander Captain M.A. Malik of 1 Punjab Regiment.

In this battle, 13 Kumaon Regiment also suffered loss of 4 soldiers who led down their lives for the country. Post completion of war, 13 Kumaon Regiment was awarded with one Vir Chakra and two Sena Medal.

The story is not over yet….sounds interesting !!!!
