Following my passion of Diving – Location: Maldives (Part-2)

Posted on April 6, 2020April 8, 2020 by Abhishek Prahladka

I could not understand the decision of my fate.

The weather has completely changed, from bright sunny afternoon, it was now raining and windy.

It is possible to dive during rains but not during windy weather but still I kept my hopes high and marched towards dive centre. It was drizzling and so I managed to reach the dive centre without being too wet.

The staffs of dive centre were waiting outside the dive shop and as soon as they saw me, they greeted me but the words I was expecting from them could not be heard.

They informed me that the team is waiting for weather to improve. They also informed that, they have contacted boatman to be prepared for sailing as and when he feels it is safe, but boatman has refused as of now, considering windy weather.

So, the next course of action was to wait till 4:30 PM, which was the cut-off time for the day, if any dive trip has to commence. However, this condition was applicable for my certification level, if I were an Advanced Level diver, than situation would have been different.

I wished, if I would have acquired the certification, than my suffering would have been less, but one has to face the situation, when circumstances are not favorable.

Finally, it was 4:30 PM and there was no improvement in the weather and all hopes of diving was finished for the day. Before giving closing remarks, diving team contacted boatman about his opinion and after his confirmation, the dive was called off for the day.

Huge disappointment for me, first Sun Island Resort and than Rasdhoo Island, I got disappointment at both the places in terms of diving.

Different place, different reason, but same result – disappointment for me.

Still I did not lost hope.

I sat with the Dive centre team to discuss, next alternative and the only solution was to try next day morning.

But now everything was dependent on weather and I had to return to Male on next day, so I had only morning time to go for dive, since ferry to Male was scheduled in the afternoon.

Diving team sat and they discussed for almost half an hour, on the dive schedule, dive location, logistics, etc and finally they came up with an option to go for dive next day morning, but it had many prerequisites:

  1. Weather needs to be normal, if it only rains than we can continue but if it is windy than it would not be possible.
  2. If we need to dive next day than we need to start very early in the morning, which means that at the time of first rays, we should reach the dive spot and reaching dive spot from the shore takes 20-25 minutes. So, time management is very important.
  3. My confirmation on dive start time, mental health, availability to dive early morning, other issues, etc were required, in order to arrange the required logistics.

After seeing my plans failing one after the another and my endless efforts to dive inspite of all the hurdles, the dive team at Rasdhoo Dive Centre went out of the way to create a dive plan for me.

Finally, it was decided to make last attempt tomorrow morning and I accepted all the above prerequisites. I had nothing to loose that time, since I earned nothing, so no alternative available for me except to accept the plan.

Everything was now dependent on the nature and I was praying for weather to improve.

My hopes were shattering as the clock was heading towards night…
