The flight reached to Male’s Ibrahim Nasir International Airport on time and I was carrying only a back pack so it took minimum time for me to reach to immigration counter.
Airport was very small and all the passengers had to walk to the arrival hall.
The immigration counter was in the arrival hall and it took 20 minutes to get the visa. However, this time Q&A was longer than the Delhi and Colombo airport.
The officer at immigration counter asked me reason to travel to Maldives and also whether it was my first trip?
I replied immigration officer about my maiden trip to Maldives and the reason for the trip was purely tourism. I was also carrying my snorkeling fins which was attached to my bag and it was clearly visible from outside. I also justified my reason by pointing at my fins and told her about my diving ambitions.
Her next question was, is anyone joining me on this trip?
I replied, “I am travelling alone and no one is joining me on this trip.
She again asked, “Are you sure??
I replied, Yes Maa’am I am travelling alone in this trip.
She stared at me with smile and stated that she asked this question because, no one visits Maldives alone being a famous honeymoon destination and she has not seen anyone travelling alone to Maldives for tourism.
But nevertheless, she allowed me to stay as per the Visa rules and I stepped towards the Exit gate for my onward journey.
But, I was in dilemma at the time of visit to Male.
Reason being, I was not engaged when I booked the ticket to Maldives but within few months of booking the ticket, I was engaged and above all I was visiting Male alone. So, I was having pressure to get married before November so that I can take my better half along with me. But the time was too short to convert engagement into marriage so I had to step down the proposal. Now, when I was in Male, I was facing heat of my fiancé… and suppose if I would have told this incident to immigration officer, for sure, she would had sent me back to India at that point only….Just kidding!!!!
