Beating hunger at Sun Island

Posted on April 13, 2020 by Abhishek Prahladka

For a hardcore vegetarian like me, the food options are always limited outside India and the situation was same here too, but the good thing was the availability of varieties in vegetarian category which was sufficient for me.

The quality of vegetarian food was not “Excellent” but was good and enough to satisfy hunger. Most of the things were prepared from frozen food packets and were not cooked fresh, so the taste was not up to the mark but for non-vegetarians the option of fresh cooked food was available.

I am habitual of such type of food and had faced worst situations in terms of availability of food, so this option was far better than my earlier experiences. Apart from food, options were available for fruit juices, tea, coffee, etc which was more than sufficient. I didn’t book meal plan in advance while booking for room, because I was very well aware of the food served outside India in the name of vegetarian, so it is better to pay and eat.

I always prefer to take breakfast plan along with the room while visiting any destination outside India as it makes sense. In the breakfast, continental menu is always available which includes, bread, butter, tea, coffee, juices, fruits, toasts, etc and it is sufficient for morning food and sometimes heavy variety like beans, paratha, curry, creamy potato.

However, option for dinner and breakfast is very limited and it creates problem.

So, it is better to pay for food of choice during day and night time, rather than sticking to the fix menu and wasting money. My experience says that, the food package sometimes look lucrative in terms of price but it is actually beneficial when the food habits are not restrictive or preciously a “vegetarian”.

So, for my entire stay, I had tried all the available vegetarian options, as can be seen in above pictures, from vegetable noodles to Indian curry.

Travel Tips: In Maldives, most of the resorts are on private islands and there is no option other than the food provided by resort during breakfast, lunch or dinner. So, it is always better to keep some snacks and food items in the bag, sufficient for stay duration in such resorts. It solves two purposes, first, food of individual preference is available and secondly, it saves money. Once you stay at Male, Rasdhoo or any other island, than variety and options for food are available.

Hi! You need to upload even more images right into your articles.
    That would certainly be better.
