Villages are very import part of Indian civilization and present society, due to the fact that the contribution in country’s GDP by villages is significant and they have preserved the Indian tradition and customs as ever before. But story of all the villages is not same, there are many villages who have lost their identity, inhabitants and livelihood due to devastation caused by natural disasters like flood, fire, epidemics, earthquake, draught, etc but some have lost their identity and local inhabitants due to some supernatural powers.
Words “ supernatural power” thrills for a second and feels like something extraordinary, beyond imagination and then there is a big debate on existence of “supernatural powers” being either “good” or “bad”. I am not an expert on this subject but my opinion and belief is limited to the existence of “supernatural powers” but not beyond that. I don’t know or rather I don’t have evidence to prove that it exists, but I have faced certain events in my life which made me to believe on such things. But, for now, I am narrating story of my trip to a village called “Kuldhara” which is said to be a haunted village and it is an abandoned village located in Jaisalmer.
My purpose of writing this story or blog is bit different.
The story of Kuldhara is easily available on the various websites to read and form an opinion but I would focus on one aspect, which I noticed after visiting same place twice, in a span of 7 years.
About the Village
Kuldhara village is located at a distance of 30 kilometers from Jaisalmer and can be reached easily through car, bike, camel, etc. depending on choice and availability of time. It is said that, this village is haunted and cursed and hence it is not allowed to visit this place after 5:00 PM, so better to plan in the morning and afternoon to explore this place in better manner but since the size of the village is not big, so it can easily be covered in 1-1 hr 30 minutes depending on individual’s interest in this place. Though, the entry and exit time is not written anywhere and there is no information board near to this site but it is a rule which has been imposed by the local authorities.
I had heard multiple stories of this place from the natives, camel man and some investigators. The story is different as narrated by them but the final outcome was that, the village was abandoned overnight and it is cursed, for haunting I don’t have any answer. But one thing is for sure, it is not an archaeological sight because it is not a monument, not a historical sight, not any type of park, so the facts still remain mysterious about this place.
To be continued…
