The aircraft used for island transfers are usually small at Maldives since the air strips are not very long. The largest airport is Male airport and rest are small airports used for island transfers. For reaching Sun Island, Villa Airport, Maamingili is used as transit point which is also a small island with very less population. The Sea Planes are in abundance and many tourists also opt for it, but they are very expensive for a single traveler, also, some of the resorts are only connected through Sea Planes (as per the information available on the resort websites).
However, the aircraft used for my journey was an ATR but of small size and it ranked second in the list of small aircraft, I had boarded till date. It was a small aircraft meant for island transfer, so the flying height of the aircraft was not too much and view of Atolls could be clearly seen from the window of aircraft. The loveliest among the Atolls, which stole my heart was the Island of Heart shape.
I hope all those who are reading this blog would like to take their dear ones to this island.
Video showing aerial view of the Maldives is available at below link, which shows magnificent views of Atolls –
Another best part of this flight was the availability of mobile network in the flight. As a practice, we don’t use mobile to call inside the aircraft because it doesn’t work inside the aircraft and I was busy in making videos from the aircraft, so I did not used mobile phone. But suddenly, I thought of checking mobile phone and I found there was network in my phone. I was surprised to see network on my phone and my first expression was that, “my mobile has malfunctioned”. But in order to check the reality, I started searching for the mobile network in the “Settings” of my mobile phone and found that my mobile was detecting network.
I did not tried to make any call or message from mobile network as it might affect the flight operations, so, I kept it back inside the seat pocket. But it was first time, I got network access, while flying on airplane.
After reaching Male, my next destination was Rasdhoo and I had shared about my trip to Rasdhoo @ below link-
